Brown Trout fishing with float rig at Allan Park

Date: May 20, 2017
Temperature: 18°C
Water depth: 4-6ft
Location: Allan Park, Ontario
Bait used: trout dough, trout nuggets (on Amazon Canada or Amazon US)

This was recorded a month after last video on long weekend Saturday. As you can see in the video trout nuggets are still a killer bait here and many fish took it as soon as it hit water.

You can’t use full size nuggets as they come in the package, because they are quite big and these Brownies won’t take it. Believe me, I tried.

I cut each piece in 3-4 smaller pieces, roll them into a ball the size of a salmon egg and put it on the hook covering it, so the fish can’t feel the hook point. It just works wonderfully.

I use 5g float weighted down so it shows slightest touch and therefore I can set the hook on the fish before they swallow it deep. Well balanced float also doesn’t put a lot of resistance to the fish and fish take the bait more readily. I noticed also that the fish seem like they taste/play with the bait before they finally take it and swim away with it and if they feel resistance they leave it.

P.S. I had an encounter with the deformed fish you see at 16:09 twice more. About a month later (I didn’t record that day) I caught it 3 TIMES on the same day. I was surprised that it recovered so fast and was eating so soon – I caught it about every 1/2 hr.

I also caught it and released it next year, in early trout season, however that was the last time I saw it. I guess someone took it.
